I was going to submit something a little more personal to kick off my first
year of Envisage, but I found three of these guys in my (dying) garden last
night, and couldn't pass them up. I'm a bit of a science geek, so I had to
find out what these creepy little caterpillars are. Turns out they're a
type of hornworm and the things on their backs are the cocoons of a
beneficial parasitic wasp. The mama wasp lays eggs inside the caterpillar,
the eggs hatch and eat their way out, and then they build cocoons on their
host's back. One less caterpillar to eat my tomatoes!

Wow...what an awesome catch with your camera. Yeah, personal is nice, but you just can't pass up a pic like that!
That's a wonderful capture! Creepy little things, but incredible!

EEK!!! :{ No wonder your garden is dying.......with things like that crawling around in it. He's U-G-L-Y!!!!!!!!!! :{
my husband & I are fascinated by this shot. we hate hornworms. they ate half of our jalapenos this summer -- but we got rid of them & now the peppers are bigger than ever!
Holy Caterpillar! Looks like a bunch of little chefs riding on its back. Very odd but very cool.
That is a very cool first picture.
