Jennifer Lea
Due to the fact that there's already a Jennifer and a Jen on here, I thought
I'd go by Jennifer Lea (Lea is pronounced the same way you would pronounce
sea or pea), which is my first and middle name. Chances are if I refer to
myself, I'll do so as Jen since that's what everyone calls me.
I was born in Chicago and was a theatre major at The Chicago Academy for the
Arts high school. When I graduated from high school I moved to Los Angeles
for college. I spent four years at USC in their cinema-television
department studying to be a screenwriter. After college, I worked as a
freelance screenwriter for a few years. When that didn't pan out, I decided
to go to law school. My father is a lawyer and I did very well on my LSATs
so I figured law school was the right path. If I could do it all over
again, I'd have gone to medical school. My only regret in life is becoming
a lawyer and not a doctor.
I went to Pepperdine for law school and got married during my third year
there. I passed the California State Bar on the first try, but
unfortunately couldn't find a job (I kind of seem to be cursed when it comes
to getting a job). I became pregant in 2005 with my son and due to being
high risk and having many complications, couldn't job hunt or work during
that time. That was fine by me since I knew I'd be moving after having my
son. Neither my husband nor myself wanted to raise our son in LA and
neither of us really liked living out there either. As soon as my son was
born in February of 2006, my husband and I started job hunting and looking
for a place to live in Wisconsin. Why Wisconsin? It's a three hour drive
to see my Mom, a two hour drive to see my Dad, and a short plane ride to NY
where my husband's family lives. Also, since my grandparents all lived here
when I was growing up, I was familiar with the area. It's beautiful,
affordable, has great schools, and is the perfect place to raise a child.
We left LA in December of 2006 and moved into our apartment in Wisconsin in
January of 2007. We currently reside in a Waukesha area suburb to the west
of Milwaukee.
I took and passed the Wisconsin State Bar on the first try, and then, just
as it was job hunting time once more, the economy went down the tubes.
Right now I'm staying at home with my son (who, as of this writing, is three
and a half years old) and looking for a position as an attorney. Finding a
job isn't easy in this economy and more often than not I hear nothing back
from my applications. That's kind of frightening considering I was able to
pass two state bars on the first try, graduated high up in my class, and
scored the top grade in many of my law school classes.
I currently live with my husband Rob, my son Gabriel, and my cat (a 14 year
old red male Abyssinian) Sydney.

Okay, guys, I think we better double up on our smart pills - we've got us quite the scholar joining us. Hmm, I think I should be speaking of only myself here.
I fled Southern CA after 20 years. All three of my children graduated from Laguna Beach High School and loved it, but we all have left the bling behind. I've found my retirement home on Monteagle Mountain in Tennessee, which is about 1 1/2 hours south of Nashville. My son attended The University of the South (Sewanee)and that's when I fell in love with the area. My baby son who attended Cornell has just finished his 2 year commitment to Teach For America in D.C. He's getting ready to take his LSATs, while his girlfirned is getting ready to take the medical school test - MSATs? I figure I'll be covered with their career choices.
Welcome aboard! Reenie
Hey Jennifer Lea, nice to meet you. I'm sending you lots of good vibes with the job hunting. I'm in the same predicament, just left a cush job in Santa Barbara to be nearer to my beau in Portland, and I'm tryna find the right fit.
Just sending a little "FIGHT ON!" your way!
