I'm trying Depo Provera, the birth control shot. I've been warned I might
have a lot of non-stop spotting/bleeding after I get my first period on it.
Lovely. I'm trying it because I was told I can no longer be on the pill
and I need some form of birth control to regulate super heavy periods.
We'll see how this works out.

Let us know how it goes? I'd love to be off the pill but nothing else is really reasonable....

Same here... Been on the pill forever and I'm 38. Not having kids so I don't need the parts but no one will touch me as I'm high risk for surgery. Ugh.

Every woman's body is different so you probably won't have the same reactions as me, but Depo Provera DID NOT agree with me. I don't know if they have changed it at all, and it has been 15 or so years since I was on it, but I experienced CONSTANT spotting for the entire year I was on it (nothing heavy, but certainly wearing a panty liner every day is annoying), ravenous appetite (I gained a bunch of weight), horrible mood swings (depression, anger, sadness, you name it) and I think that's all. But that was certainly enough. It was a miserable year. Ultimately though, hormones and me don't mix well. I had some of the same experiences during pregnancy too. The pill wasn't my friend either, that's why I opted for a more permanent and surgical method with endometrial ablation. Never been happier. So, that's my story, it doesn't mean it will be your story, but just - heads up. Good luck! I really hope it works for you!!!

just be careful with it because depo-provera take on a long period can cause osteoporosis.Be sure to pass regular exam ( every 1 or 2 years) to check your bone density. If you need more info, just contact me. I work in radiology, and we do that kind of exam.

Since Envisage will be winding down shortly, your best bet is to check my blog on occasion. Down the road, I'll be better able to tell if I like the shot or not.

I've heard stories both horrible and great about the shot. I figure, I'm willing to try it and see what comes of it.

Not too worried about the calcium loss. I'm a total dairy whore and get far more than the recommended calcium servings per day. My doc warned me about the loss as well and so I've added Viactiv to my already dairy saturated diet.

Depo Provera made me really sick. I gained 30 pounds instantly, and it honestly looked as though I was pregnant, because of where the weight went to. I was nauseous all time, and exhausted, and had random spotting. It took a long time after I stopped the Depo Provera for it to get out of my system, and I haven't been physically the same since.

However, I have a friend who has been on Depo Provera, and who is not having any of the problems that I had with it.

May your experience with Depo be a positive one.
