"Turning Into Salt"

Amanda 365/365

And to wrap up this year, a portrait of my family. Slightly more accurate
then the Picture People would capture. xoxoxoxo

Zoe turned 9 today! *sniff* She's been being quite the bratty diva about
her birthday this year. Temper tantrums when we said we couldn't have a
really big party have been happening. The last straw for me was when I
asked her if she'd like to have some friends over for cupcakes and playtime
on her birthday. Her reply? "As long as there are presents I don't care."

So. I invited a very small group of friends for cupcakes and lemonade. I
specified 'no gifts'. I blew up a bunch of balloons and just left them
lying around for the kids to kick about.

The kids drew this tail-less bunny and I gave each of them a cotton ball
with glue on it. We played 'Pin the Tail on the Bunny'. The child who got
closest got a "Hip-hip HOORAY!"

They all seemed to have a good time. There were no tempter tantrums, like
we had at her party last year. And can I say how much less stress I felt
without tossing a big-ass birthday party?

We have a new family member! He's a year old, mostly lab, but probably with
some hound or setter mixed in. He's settling in while we try to figure out
what to name him. Really, I think he's a Blackie. This dog was eligible
for the "Sister's Fund" scholarship for black dogs. Apparently, they're
overlooked regularly, so there's a fund to offset the adoption costs.

Cupcakes for Zoe's birthday on Sunday. She's become quite the little diva
in regards to her birthday. We've asked the families we've invited to
celebrate with us to bring no gifts. She's turning nine. Her hormones are
starting to kick in and I'm getting glimpses of what we'll be dealing with
in a couple of years.

I'm trying out contacts this week. I see the eye doctor tomorrow to discuss
how they're working for me. I think I look weird without my specs. By the
way, like the housekeeper outfit I wear for my cleaning tasks?

I take photos every first day of school. Zoe always poses nicely. Will, on
the other hand, isn't as enthusiastic about my documentation.

The Husband and I with Penn Jillette after the Penn and Teller show at the
Rio in Las Vegas. I have a huge crush on the man, which I told him. I
realized later I look like I'm posing with a big fish I caught. :D

All of us after The Husband and I were remarried at the Graceland Wedding
Chapel in Las Vegas by Elvis.

Our excellent friends John and Stephanie are in town visiting! We did what
we always do when we stay in in the evening. We got drunk and cooked food.

My mom and I put up curtains in my kitchen. I'm surprised at how much
cooler in temperature the room is now.

Last day here! Playing with Daddy.

My mom said that she wanted to get a good photo with the kids for their
church vacation wall. I vote for this one.

A blurry cell phone photo of Will's toe. When he dropped the drawer on his
foot yesterday, he got a big blood blister under his big toenail. We went
home in the middle of the night because he was. not. sleeping. Then we went
to the doctor this morning. She 'evacuated the hematoma'. This involves
heating a paperclip in a flame until it's very hot. Then using it to make a
hole in the toenail. This works like a charm. The swelling has gone down
and the discoloration behind his toenail is pretty much gone. Hopefully, I
can actually spend one whole night here at this great resort.

Today's picture was going to be of the great resort we're visiting with my
parents. However, my son pulled a drawer out of the TV cabinet onto his
foot. Then he was allowed to stay up waaaaaaay to late. The combination of
over-tired and his poor, throbbing big toe made for a screaming four year
old until 1:30 in the morning. Here, my mom is driving Will and me home at
2 a.m. The rooms are booked through Sunday so we'll be able to go back out
tomorrow or Friday.

Today, we went to see the Bodies exhibit then had dinner at Frank.

My parents arrive tomorrow. I'm cleaning obsessively and yelling at the
kids for not helping me.
