I check my insurance website pretty regularly just to make sure there
are not any bad charges etc.....I also do it to see what these Doctors
charge. Its insane. Prescription medicine prices blow my mind. This is
the charge for an anti-nausea drug that I am required to take. Don't
get me wrong....I think it works....but how do I really know?? I
haven't NOT taken it and this charge is for only 12 pills!!! My co-pay
was $35 and I thank my lucky stars my employer provided me with an
awesome insurance plan. I don't know how thrilled I am with the Gov.
getting involved in my health care.....I fear that it will take my
great plan and make it something less......

In Canada we have regular health care covered by our government (doctors visits and hospital visits) our employers benefit plans cover drugs, vision and dental (varying by your employer of course) So don't get too jumpy about your government taking care of health care

I work in healthcare. The sad part is that it's not your doc that's raking in the $$$, it's the insurance company and Big Pharma. It costs about 50 cents to make a pill, but they can charge as much as they want on it, with no overhead policy; to "recoup whatever amounts was used in research & development". This means that a pill that costs 50 cents to make will cost you a pretty penny. I've never seen such a ridiculous medical system, in all my world travels as the one in the US.

I am going to write about my experiences as an American living in Canada for the past 3 years - going from having a NH State Health Insurance policy/coverage to nothing...then coming to Canada.

I shudder to think what would have happened to us in that in-between time in the States when we weren't COBRA'ed. It would have been devastating.

What if you lost your insurance and had to pay $1,300 for a simple prescription? There has to be an option for those who can't afford the high cost of your awesome plan. No one is suggesting that if you like your plan, you have to take the government option (if there ever is one!) The highest satisfaction rating of any health insurance plan in the U.S. is the V.A. plan, which is single-payer, government run health insurance. Interesting, huh?

My insurance sucks because I choose to pay a low premium with a high deductible. I'm out of pocket every month about $126 because some of my meds aren't covered. Yet, I ain't complaining. I'm on the home stretch with Medicare - that's if it still exisits when I turn 65.

My goodness! What Anti Nausea med is this? 10 years ago, I remember Zofran costing roughly $100 a pill. We were lucky that my oncologist gave me samples.
