My son got this on his first day of Cub Scouts. I know it does not look
like much to you but to he and I this is huge as it means he belongs.

Belongs to a group and this is something he has longed for since he was
little.

He is so honored and full of pride to be a young man in Cub Scouts. They are
not referred to as boys only Young Men In Scouts and he is learning how to
act as a man and how to help the community which is very exciting for him as
he does not have a good relationship with his father. His father chooses
this; not because he isn't around or anything like that but only because he
wants to be a dad only when he wants too and when he is around it is not
fullfilling for our son. He spoils my son with material items; my son only
wants his time and love. My son has found a group of Young Men and Adult Men
that focus on him and teach him things that his father could teach him.

Preston is my son, he is 9 and he finally feels like he belongs & is wanted
that is why it means so much to he and I.

Colleen,
Emily has been a Girl Guides Member (Canadian Girl Scouts) for three years now and I was very skeptical at first. I am NOT a group activities person AT ALL and thought this was kind of facist.

BUT, she loves it. Really loves it. Got elected her Patrol Leader this year...been to girl guides camp the past two summers and just enjoys the Heck out of her Guide time.

It is wonderful that your son has found a place for him to explore these other parts of what it means to be Male and friendship.

I hesitated greatly on the BSA & scouts, but am so glad that we did it for my son. Not only did he belong to a group that did fun things & took pride in teaching the kids to be responsible, reliable, confident people - I also branched out in the community, meeting other parents who had similar goals for their children.

Have fun with it!

I have three cub scouts and one who has moved on to boy scouts. It is amazing what it has done for my boy scout, Casey. He has always wanted to belong as well. He is not the athletic one or the best in school, but schouts he gets. The older boy scouts all gravitated toward him and several have told me they can see him making it to Eagle scout. The confidence and the smile he comes home with after camping and meetings is SOOOO worth it.

Have fun on this journey.
