Alice reached level 5 in her reading program today and received a coupon for a free kids meal at Arbys. She was very excited to go and invited her sister to come along with us as well.

We rarely eat out so this really was a special treat for her, but I can't say I am not disappointed by the teachers lack of creativity and the schools hypocrisy. They try to be very diligent about teaching the kids to eat healthy and why it is important. To hand out free fast food for reaching a reading goal seems odd to me.

A book, a bookmark, some special one one on one reading time with the principal, something other than food.

Alice asked if it would be possible for her to read to the pre-schoolers sometime and I suggested it as a goal for reaching level 5, no one ever got back to me. I guess handing out free food is easier.

Alice's wish to read to the pre-schoolers is awesomely sweet and it would be a very positive experience for everyone involved. I can't believe the school would not stop to consider such a great idea! Bex
