I'm trying to learn more about other birth control options. I hate the
pills, I LOATHE the pills. Partially because taking almost any kind of
pills- vitamins & birth control especially- makes me nauseated to a
sickening extreme. Also? I tend to get morning sickness from the
PILLS. So it's hard for me to want to take them like I should, which
is bad.

I've tried all different brands and dosages, none have ever been great.

I'm wary of the ring and the patch with my sensitive skin. The IUD
seems reasonable but the boyfriend has concerns about us being able to
have kids later on when we're ready.

Ladies? Any thoughts/comments on birth control?

(Side note- I need something to keep my cramps of doom/ sometimes
heavy bleeding away.)

Have you considered the sponge? It won't do much for cramps, though. Bridget

I had the IUD for 15 months and loved it! It cut my monthly joys back, sometimes none, and when you want to get pregnant.....just take it out! Much better then the pills. Pills could take a year to clear your system so you can start having kids. IUDs are instant. Take it out you are open for business! lol.

I haven't taken birth control in 20 years and when I did take them, I hated how they made me feel, physically and mentally. That's the only form of birth control I know, so I can't really say about the others. Just do lots of research. You'll figure it out.

Admittedly, the only birth control that I have used have been condoms and the pill. Other than that, is the shot still an option? I have a girlfriend who used to get it and she would only have a period once every 4 months. I just recently had Essure done personally but I would not recommend it for you since it is permanent.

i HATE any type that uses hormones- just never have been able to find one that works with my body... i have thought about this too, but am nervous after having such bad reactions to the pill. i am curious to see the responses and how this has worked for women out there. how does it work anyway? lol!

What about Depo-Provera? Shot every 3 months. Virtually eliminates periods.

I had a couple of IUDs over the years, and they worked great. And when the time was right, I had absolutely no problem getting pregnant, staying pregnant, and delivering a healthy baby. There were no negative IUD effects for me.

I know a couple of people who said that the shots (depo) killed their sex drive. But I think everyone reacts differently.

I had the IUD as an option and declined it. There's just something about having something up there and having to check for the strings daily that bothers me.

Right now I'm using Depo Provera and LOVE it. The only negative side effect I'm getting is acne, but using the right facial treatments keeps that at bay. And so far - no period!

I'm overweight and have been advised against it whenever I ask about the shot. It's definately on the list to discuss with a doctor.

The IUD just seems like it would make more sense, I'm really leaning towards Mirena. I don't have great health insurance right now but I feel like it would be worth the cost rather than the worry I have about the pills plus the nausea.

For those who have used the IUD: Personal question, did it ever come up with your sex partner? Like, did they notice it? I think that's my bigger concern is knowing it's there... lol
