My dear friend, Akiyo, stopped by my office this morning. She brought a
homemade sweet treat with her, as is the Japanese custom when someone moves
to a new place. It consisted of a type of gelatinous base made with rice
flour, and a sweet syrup on top made of black sugar (which I had never heard
of). Yum!
